Position Title: Engineering Manager
Reports To: Director - Operations
Department: Engineering
Position Summary:
Plan, direct and coordinate engineering programs and LEAN initiatives. Develop and implement engineered manufacturing processes from conceptualization through documentation. Resolve production problems. Design fixtures and jigs. Participate in customer negotiations to provide efficient and reliable engineering support to achieve Customer objectives. Help develop the Company's goals and generate your own department's goals with your team.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage a group of product engineers, manufacturing engineers, process engineers, LEAN engineers, CNC programmers and estimators.
2. Develop, implement and manage goals and objectives, projects, processes, documentation and quoting. Confer with Quality Assurance on product specifications and inspection requirements.
3. Share responsibility for maintaining all certifications like ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485.
4. Review incoming requests for quotation for product applications and establish feasibility for manufacturing and determine costs for performing the work.
5. Provide technical assistance and engineering direction for various projects throughout the Company.
6. Investigate production problems and delays, and assist personnel in resolving the issues.
7. Maintain knowledge within the Company's product field to assist in establishing manufacturing techniques and design and construct the equipment to allow the economical production of these items.
8. Develop, implement and monitor programs which will reduce manufacturing costs and improve product quality (i.e. LEAN).
9. Review performance of various product programs. Establish a program history and make recommendations for corrections of past problems expected to be encountered on similar applications in the future in a metal machining environment.
10. Exercise the usual authority of a manager in relation to hiring, coaching, counseling, training, mentoring, conducting performance evaluations, and promotions of the staff.
11. Work directly with Sales to satisfy customer needs and wants.
12. Perform other related duties as required.
Position Requirements
Education: Four year college degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. An advanced degree is preferred but not required.
Experience: 10 or more years engineering experience in a metal manufacturing environment. 5 or more years of management/supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience with the implementation of Lean. Experience in precision machining, contract manufacturing, and other low volume-high mix environments.
Knowledge: Knowledge of production equipment and operation procedures and practices. Knowledge of various machining processes such as Swiss screw, milling, EDM, turning and laser cutting.

Abilities: Organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Operate a computer workstation and related hardware and software. Exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and management and employees of the company. Supervise, lead, train, develop and effectively evaluate the performance of others. Work as an effective leader and team member. Provide and accept constructive criticism. Read and comprehend complex engineering documents. Work with confidential data. Work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines. Work in a production oriented environment. Maintain concentration for entire shift in order to complete job duties. Read, write, hear, understand and speak English fluently. Feel, hear, and see detail features and characteristics for tool/process development, troubleshooting and inspection of gauges, tools, equipment and product. Utilize hand-eye coordination sufficient for producing drawings and the fine adjustment of equipment and gauges. Hold, manipulate and lift samples, objects and equipment of 50 pounds. Travel throughout the plant to perform job responsibilities.
