  Position Title: Quality Engineer

Reports To: Director - Quality Systems

Department: Quality Assurance

Position Summary:

Develop, implement and administer a variety of methods and procedures to ensure product quality. Design and plan product testing and analysis to ensure that potential defects are minimized and quality levels are maintained in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Analyze reports and defective products to determine trends and recommend corrective actions. Formulate quality assurance policies and procedures.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Prepare quality assurance program plans and verification plans in accordance with customer order requirements.

2. Establish and provide written procedures for quality assurance systems. Review and provide recommendations to the Quality Assurance programs.

3. Maintain Quality Assurance Manuals and various quality procedures.

4. Perform quality assurance audits and surveillance in-house and at supplier's facilities. Administer the audit system and establish audit procedures and checklists.

5. Participate in customer audits and source inspections. Prepare responses to customer audit findings and complaints.

6. Establish employee qualification procedures and administer employee training, testing and certification programs.

7. Provide management and supervision indoctrination of quality assurance systems.

8. Participate in the review and disposition of nonconforming materials.

9. Establish sampling plans for acceptance of materials and products.

10. Investigate causes of quality system failures and customer complaints and develop corrective actions to eliminate those causes. Administer the corrective action system.

11. Prepare process qualifications.

12. Prepare reports to management and customers regarding various processes, qualifications and problems. Provide indices for the various quality assurance programs.

13. Review procedures, purchase orders, drawings, manufacturing travelers, process data, specifications, supplier documents, certifications and reports for adequacy and completeness.

14. Review requests for quotes from customers and assist in developing responses.

15. Prepare certification formats for certification of products.

16. Participate in technical, quality and commercial meetings with customer and suppliers.

17. Develop necessary understanding of customer and production processes to perform as Project Engineer for special projects.

18. Promote and pursue process improvement to yield six sigma levels of product quality. Participate and lead six sigma Process Improvement Teams.

19. Initiate, lead and coordinate capital improvement projects to improve products quality, improve inspection and/or testing efficiency, and improve internal processes.

20. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: A four year college degree in Engineering, Metallurgy or a related science. An advanced degree in one of the disciplines is preferred but not necessary.

Experience: Five (5) or more years quality engineering experience in a manufacturing or military environment.

Knowledge: Knowledge of various materials used by Veridiam (e.g. Titanium, Stainless, Inconel and Zirconium). Knowledge of Statistical Process Control methods. Knowledge of personal computers and various software applications. Knowledge of inspection and calibration. Knowledge of ISO standards.

Abilities: Organize and prioritize work and make appropriate decisions. Operate a computer workstation and related hardware and software. Interface, train, lead and coach company personnel. Work as an effective team member. Provide and accept constructive criticism. Read and comprehend complex engineering documents. Work in a production oriented environment. Work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines. Read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Travel throughout the plant, and capable of reaching around and over equipment to perform job responsibilities. Maintain mental concentration for entire shift in order to complete job duties. Feel, hear, and see detail features and characteristics for inspection and procedure development. Utilize hand-eye coordination sufficient to work with manufacturing and inspection equipment. Hold, manipulate and lift samples, objects and equipment of 50 pounds.
