Position Title: Sales Engineer

Reports To: Director of Medical Sales

Department: Northwest Territory / Veridiam Medical

Position Summary:

Generate new business and ensure growth of existing accounts. Assess the potential application of company products/services and offer solutions that meet customer needs, make presentations showing potential customers the cost benefit of purchasing company products and services, serve as a technical resource to clients and communicate customer feedback into future product developments. Use technical knowledge of product offerings to support and build sales of medical products to OEMs in assigned territory. Work remotely from home office and travel within assigned territory to generate new medical OEM business and grow existing medical OEM accounts. Require regional travel to customer locations within territory. Midwest: IL, OH, MI, IN and TN--candidates must live and be based close to Memphis, Warsaw/Ft. Wayne, Chicago or Cincinnati. Northwest: Northern CA, OR, WA, ID, CO, UT and NV--candidates must live and be based in the San Francisco Bay area (San Francisco, San Jose, Silicon Valley, Marin County/North Bay, Oakland/East Bay). Must be willing and able to travel-frequent domestic travel and infrequent international travel; estimated at 70% of time (approximately one week every other month requiring overnight stays).

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Participate in the establishment and implementation of marketing and sales strategy for medical products.

2. Manage sales territory to generate maximum sales volume and profits at new and existing customers through proactive selling, sales promotion and servicing of accounts.

3. Analyze and interpret requests for quotations, specifications and engineering drawings for the purpose of determining manufacturing feasibility. Serve as the primary point-of-contact for customers; coordinate with engineering and other departments for completion of quotes.

4. Provide new and current customers with product information, including pricing, availability, delivery, functionally equivalent product alternatives and value-added product and service information.

5. Collect and report market and industry information as it relates to production trends, material usage, employment adjustments and plant expansions or closings.

6. Participate in establishing and implementing marketing and sales strategy for high technology and engineered products.

7. Maintain account files and determine appropriate action items based on the analysis of the records. Update database, complete activity reports and prepare other sales and business development correspondence in a timely manner.

8. Participate in price, technical and administrative negotiations with customers.

9. Assist with non-medical sales and customers in assigned region.

10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: A four-year college degree is preferred, but company will consider equivalent training and experience.

Experience: Three or more years of experience selling medical device products to OEMs. Must have knowledge of the medical device market on a regional level. Experience using CRM or related databases and order/quote software is a plus.

Knowledge: General knowledge of machining processes such as Swiss screw, milling, EDM, turning, and laser cutting. Knowledge of sales process: develop sound sales strategies and action plans; set goals, priorities and execute systematic approaches to meet sales objectives; effectively network, prospect and target key contacts; build rapport and establish and maintain long-term relationships. Knowledge of customers and competitors--utilize technical know-how to prepare for sales calls; understand customer needs and goals; utilize consultative sales approach to sell solutions based on company capabilities.

Skills: Skilled in reading and comprehending complex engineering documents, blueprints, drawings and specs, along with 3-D conceptual aptitude. Strong math skills along with the ability to prepare timely, accurate, and custom estimates and quotes. Excellent time, project and task management skills, attention to detail, and follow through skills. Excellent negotiation skills and ability to proactively explore differences, consider alternative solutions, reach agreements, and close the sale. Strong organization, presentation, interpersonal, facilitation, verbal, written, and listening communication skills.

Abilities: Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, vendors, management and employees. Ability to maintain confidential and proprietary information; establish and maintain effective working relationships and interfaces with customers and employees. Ability to provide and accept feedback, input and constructive criticism. Ability to operate a computer workstation and related software (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook). Ability to maintain complete and accurate record of customer calls, contacts, and business activity, with the discipline to update database and other customer information in a timely manner. Ability to work in a production oriented environment. Must be bright, resourceful, and able to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a team. Must exhibit initiative and be a self-starter. Must be able to effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities. Must possess a consistent polished, professional demeanor, on the telephone and in-person, to represent Veridiam Medical as a top manufacturer in the industry.
